Good news Californians, if you don't have your REAL ID yet, you're in luck.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, the deadline to obtain a REAL ID card has been pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new deadline has been set for May 3, 2023.

"Extending the REAL ID full enforcement deadline will give states needed time to reopen their driver's licensing operations and ensure their residents can obtain a REAL ID-compliant license or identification card," said Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas.

The Department of Homeland Security states that only 43 percentage of Californians have a REAL ID as a driver's license and identification card, so they hope this will allow others to get theirs as soon as possible.
