Last week we heard from Pfizer that the vaccine that they're working on was showing a 90% effectiveness in protecting someone from Covid-19. Which is great because that's the same as the measles vaccine.
Well now a different company that is also working on a vaccine says they're showing success as well. Monderna says their vaccine is showing 94.5% effectiveness.
According to their data their study
"involved 30,000 participants, 15,000 of whom were given a placebo, or a shot that has no effect. After several months, 90 of them developed COVID-19, 11 of which were severe cases. Meanwhile, the other 15,000 participants were given the COVID-19 vaccine, and only five of them contracted the virus. None of them fell severely ill."
The CEO Stephane Bancel said
"This is a pivotal moment in the development of our COVID-19 vaccine candidate,” - “Since early January, we have chased this virus with the intent to protect as many people around the world as possible. All along, we have known that each day matters. This positive interim analysis from our Phase 3 study has given us the first clinical validation that our vaccine can prevent COVID-19 disease, including severe disease.”
